Project management 7 months agoNow that we regularly have players in game, and are starting to communicate a bit around the project (smooth progressive ramp up, to give us time to fix the game in the progress), I wanted to discuss our involvement in the communication with players.
I believe it’s really important to be close to the players – most of the very successful video…[Read more]

Project management 7 months, 2 weeks ago@arbrandes and @mtyaka, now that october has started, small reminder : please make sure that your tasks for the coming month do not exceed 900€ for you Adolfo and 800€ for you Matjaz in order to have a not too complicated time at the end of the month when it comes to paying the checks ! Thanks

You’re in! Hopefully, you should have received an email, along with @arbrandes @tartarugafeliz and @mtyaka => http://cardstories.org/owa/
I’ve also added you to the recipients of alerts for each visitor coming. If anyone else want to receive them, let me know! (warning, this will be spammy :p)

Thanks for the account! It’s really cool watching it live like that!

It is! Thanks for the flawless implementation : )

No problemo – although I’d reserve judgement for a few days on whether it’s flawless or not.

Project management: 8 months agoI’ve discussed with the accountant yesterday : in order to be able to pay taxes, URSSAFF, accounting work, we need to have minimum 2k€ on the bank account at the end of october.
So I’ve reworked accordingly the cash forecast on business/cash follow up & forecast, it’s the september sheet V2, in order to have this amount at the end of the month.…[Read more]-
Blanchard, I’m perfectly ok with it. 1/4 my time (around 10 hours a week) is more or less what I will have available for CS anyway, for the next 3 months.
-
I’m perfectly fine with this as well. I currently have another source of income so there is no problem at all — if it would help, my time can be cut even more until the financial situation gets brighter.

Project management: 8 months agoI was advised to have a look at http://www.founderinstitute.com/ for october’s session. Good training, good network apparently. And speakers from Y combinator. 600€ per person from what i heard. What do you think ?
-
Thanks David, I didn’t knew this one!
It seems like a French attempt at copying YC – but I laughed a lot at the conditions :p Not only do they not provide any money, but they make us pay for *everything* (“scholarship” costs, or even applying), and they still want a percentage at the end, and a fee when we raise money! Ah,…[Read more]
-
I understand you gut feeling
Though I see it more as a training session than as a copy of YC. Anyway we’re a bit short on cash for this right now and it’s not a short term value (the results from this, if there are, would take a few months to show i think), but i’ll have an eye on it for maybe another session.

Project management: 8 months agoI’ve started piecing together a marketing plan, so list all the steps and actions to start spreading the word about Card Stories in the coming weeks.
http://wiki.farsides.com/w/Marketing_Plan
To prepare for it, I’ll need help! : ) If you can, the following would help:
1) Read it, and add new suggestions of actions/steps, or new blog/sites,…[Read more]

OWA should be completely functional, yes. It does require some manual configuration of the settings in the database, though, but that shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours.
-
Perfect, thanks! I’ll probably install alpha8 on the live version – I’ll ask you for help then : )
-
Roger that, help will be given!
I just remembered, though, that I couldn’t get the heat map to work. Goals and stuff are fine, just not this. I think there’s a ticket already, we might want to look closer now that OWA will become more important:

Np for the heatmap : ) If the rest is already working, we’re good! Thanks @arbrandes

FYI I’ve spent more time thinking about the concept to convey for the beta, and I’d like to brainstorm this a bit – I think there is something to find but I couldn’t quite put my finger on it yet.
Two areas:
1) Communication to players – submitting ideas of cards, with the best being made afterwards is good (I think it was @tartarugafeliz who…[Read more]-
Btw, an idea to help spur some brain juice and ideas into this – using a crowdsourcing website to ask about campaign ideas. Not sure if this would bring anything relevant, but could be worth a try.
For example, squadhelp is specialzed on marketing – it’s a bit crappy, and mostly used by people who need boring stuff like beauty product…[Read more]
-
I like the idea ! I’m not sure how people will be able to bring relevant ideas without inner feeling of the game (ie without playing it before), but given the low cost i think it’s worth a try.

Done – started with something simple (SEO) to attract a few people and see how it goes. http://www.squadhelp.com/domainContest/1078/SEO_for_Online_Game_-_Card_Stories
Will go on with the marketing campaign if it goes well : )

Look at this cover of the new yorker (http://farsides.com/wp-content/uploads/group-documents/8/1316349401-media_httpwwwchristop_JvgII.jpg.scaled500.jpg) – its a card in itself!!!
-
Very cool yep – it will be a good example to explain stuff for the crowdsourcing experiment :p
Thanks!

Xavier, to my layman’s eyes the marketing plan is coming along nicely: for now I’m going to focus on fixing the pre-requisite bugs instead of adding to the bundle.
-
Sounds good – thanks for having a look at it, and good luck with the bugs

-
@antoviaque I’ve read the marketing plan and it looks good, thanks !
0) for the budget questions, see my other post related to cash forecast
1) I’d like to start looking at partnerships with portals (even though it will happen later at open beta i guess) – we could look at our 25-35 women target for instance. I’m afraid the typical game…[Read more]-
Sorry, I missed your post! Some answers:
1) It could still be worth to try kongregate & co – I heard that one of the big released his first HTML5 game lately (can’t get a hold of the article I saw though), and they are for sure looking very closely at what is happening with HTML5/Flash lately. Since we’re one of the rare good games on this…[Read more]

Project management: 9 months agoFor information, I’ll be in Montreal from August 26th to Sept 6th.
It should not impact my attending our meetings on monday/tuesday/wednesday though.
If you know people in montreal that could be interested in discussing around Farsides (regarding business dev or whatever topic), let me know !-
Oh, nice – enjoy your time there, fellow traveler
Any leads on people to meet or meet again there?

There is a few people i want to see (from the industry / from quebec administration / from finance) but I haven’t had time yet to organize the trip and contact them. I’m quite late on my schedule currently

hehe , that’s a tough one

I unfortunetaly don’t see a magical solution here. See if some parts of the story can be made less ambitious without…[Read more]

I’m there the whole day and I made 3 or 4 friends already, that comes every day to play a little. I have to say its very rewarding to see people having fun and ideas with something we worked so hard to finish
So, count on me! I’m there all the time!
agree on what you say, I’ve seen this isolation too many times in game projects.
On a personal level, I love to hang around on CS, it’s a great place to learn about the way players deal with the game. Unfortunately with my current job search, it’s hard for me to schedule when I’m around. I try to go at least once a day though.
Maybe on top…[Read more]
Good idea the daily game – it’s a good way to make sure we play all together regularly, then stays who wants to.
What do other people think? @mtyaka since #528 didn’t solve your swapping issue, any perspective on getting that new laptop? : )
There’s two things preventing me from playing more often. First one is lack of free time, second one is that I am running into some performance issues when playing CS at the same time as keeping an instance of VirtualBox open (I need that for my current work), which can make my laptop really slow and no fun to use. (My next task is trying to find…[Read more]
